Xavier Britain creates bespoke tableware for Louis Vuitton’s new café in Berkeley Square

Xavier Britain has created a bespoke fine bone china collection for Louis Vuitton's pop-up hotel in Berkeley Square, Mayfair.

Designed specifically for the Café Alma's lunch and afternoon tea service, the collection includes bespoke teacups, saucers, plates and serving pieces created in fine bone china for daily hospitality use.

The team at Louis Vuitton were clear from the outset that they wanted the feeling and sound of proper afternoon tea service — the gentle rattle of fine bone china arriving at the table, silver teaspoons against teacups, teapots being poured slowly across white tablecloths.

For our small British studio, it has been enormously special to create bespoke tableware for one of the most talked-about hospitality openings in London this year.

Set within an elegant townhouse overlooking Berkeley Square, Café Alma creates the atmosphere of a classic first floor drawing room with gorgeous sash windows looking down on black cabs and London plane trees.

The collection itself was designed to feel timeless, relaxed and genuinely enjoyable to use. Beautifully bright fine bone china, delicate detailing and classic proportions were chosen to sit naturally within the interiors of the café without feeling overly formal.

Working with Café Alma and Louis Vuitton on this project has been a genuine pleasure and a wonderful celebration of British tableware craftsmanship in one of London’s most exciting launches for luxury and heritage.
