Founded in 2019, Xavier China is a new family business focused on reviving the historic beauty of English fine bone china.
It all began when founders, Nicky & Charlotte, went out to buy a dinner service for their new family home.
"We knew we wanted bone china for its translucency and strength, but found ourselves having to choose from a limited range of expensive retailers, plain white plates or an antique dinner service."
It seemed odd that Josiah Spode's brilliantly practical invention had become so difficult to buy. Bone china is more difficult to chip than other types of porcelain, making it perfect for day-to-day living as well as special occasions.
We asked a friend to draw a design inspired by the house, found a factory in Stoke and ordered our own bespoke set of china...
Ultimately, we had exactly what we wanted for a good price and thought, 'surely other families want this too?'
Friends and family were excited by the idea of putting a coat of arms or monogram on their china and the Classic Collection was born, providing the perfect canvas for personalisation.
From 60th birthdays to wedding lists, bespoke bone china is a brilliant present that not only thrills the recipient, but lasts for generations.
In short, we are in the business of creating new family heirlooms!
Display your British wares with pride knowing that everything has come from within a 10-mile radius in Stoke-on-Trent.
The unrivalled Queen of porcelain - translucent, elegant and resilient. Bone china is the strongest type of pottery and the least likely to chip.
All Xavier China tableware is dishwasher and microwave-safe
- unless you go for gold!
Bone china is not only the queen of porcelain but also a uniquely British invention.
It is important to us that our plates are made in Stoke-on-Trent, the home of British ceramics and bone china's place of birth.
After a bit of hunting, we found the perfect factory at the heart of the Potteries. Production methods have barely changed since the 1790s when bone china was first produced by Josiah Spode in a factory round the corner.
Our dream of having the china made in England is now in full swing, employing local artisans who pass on their skills from one generation of potters to the next.
Fine bone china may not be vegan, but like many traditional materials it is very sustainable.
The recipe contains at least 45% animal bone, which gives bone china particular strength and translucency when combined with Cornish clay and Geldspars. This means it is less easy to chip than other types of porcelain, and very strong despite it’s elegant beauty. Your bone china dinner service will last many generations, reused again and again for family feasts.
All Xavier China tableware pieces are made to order meaning there is zero waste. The animal bone ash is a bi-product from local abattoirs finding a new purpose for a waste material.
All our products - including our recyclable packaging - are produced, decorated and packed within a ten mile radius of our factory in Stoke-on-Trent.
We are pleased to be an accredited member of Made in Britain, an organisation which brings British manufacturers together under one collective mark, to help buyers and specifiers easily identify products which are made in Britain.
